The Ultimate Guide to Tibble Fork Family Pictures | Utah County Family Photographer
Capturing natural, bright, true-to-color family portraits across Salt Lake City and Utah County
Tibble Fork Reservoir is one of the most scenic locations in Utah County for family, extended family, bridals and senior photos featuring a reflective reservoir and stunning mountain views. Whether you’re planning a summer, fall, or winter shoot, Tibble Fork offers stunning backdrops for family photos. As an Utah County family photographer, I’ve captured countless sessions here and I love sharing tips to help your family get the most out of your time at this beautiful location.
Travel Time & Preparation: Tibble Fork is located in American Fork Canyon and is a popular location for outdoor recreation, so it can get busy during the summer and fall. Here’s what to know before your session:
- A parking pass is required and can be purchased on their official website
- Plan about 15 extra minutes to park and walk to the meeting spot
- During the summer mosquitoes can be present, so bring bug spray
- Now has cell service (it didn’t in the past)
- Dogs are allowed
Best time of year to schedule your session: Tibble Fork is beautiful year-round, but the most popular times are summer and fall, when the reservoir and surrounding mountains provide stunning backdrops for family photos.
What to bring:
- Because the location is large, bring comfortable shoes for walking between photos.
- Props that coordinate with your outfits, like blankets for kids to sit on or be wrapped up in
- Hand warmers if your session is in the fall or winter
My favorite spots at Tibble Fork:
- Walk to the top of the hill for panoramic mountain views
- Along the shoreline and standing in the water (only if it's warm and clients want to)
- Near the parking lot and east restrooms - rustic wooden fence with a gorgeous reservoir and Mountain View
- Dirt trail along the dam of the reservoir
- Further up the road past the parking lot - offers another view of the reservoir and rustic fence (I recommend this spot mainly for individuals or couples as it is right alongside the road)
